A History of Broken Things
There is a story behind every broken thing.
A story as unique as the thing itself.
Be it a weather-beaten shell,
Half-buried in the sand.
Or an old grandfather clock
With a sluggish minute-hand.
There is beauty in every broken thing.
Listen closely and you’ll hear
The symphony of an elegant violin
With a few busted strings.
Or see the artistry of a Pegasus figurine
With two fractured wings.
There is sorrow in every broken thing.
A grief for what once was and what will never be again.
Like a discarded frame of shattered glass
Holding a picture of former wedding bands.
Or a crumpled and ripped envelope
Containing unspoken words and plans.
There is a story behind every broken thing.
A story as unique as the thing itself.
They will gladly share it with you
If only you’d listen to them sing.
