My piece, “Breaching the Surface,” is a representation of my growth and perseverance. As someone who has struggled with depression my whole life, I know it can feel as if you’re drowning. This painting is a reminder that the surface may seem unreachable at times, but if you keep going, you’ll make it. Years ago, I never saw myself achieving as much as I have. There were many times where I’ve considered giving up, but I persisted. By continuing through my struggles, I’ve been able to witness my growth into someone I can appreciate. I am extremely proud of myself and my accomplishments. With that being said, I wanted to give thanks to “Girls Right the World” for this incredible opportunity. You have given me the validation that my work is good, no matte how much I’ve doubted myself. I am truly honored to contribute to this amazing organization. Thank you for allowing me to do so. -Kylee Juchau
